Emily Shaw – Fine Art Student Ulster University

Emily is a second year, studying fine art. She specialises mostly in the photography side to it as well as video. She creates videos from still images – which are amazing. She has a different approach to photography compare to mine as we both look at it differently. I was really happy that she emailed me asking whether she could take part in this project but also to get images in return that she could use on her social media. Working with her was very easy as she is an outgoing and easy to communicate with, she was quite open and was working with me to get these photographs, moving objects etc. Making sure that we both had fun taking these but as well learn from each other.

From the shoot and all the images that were taken I have selected these images as I feel that they work very well and show what I need to capture for my project. From showing her studio and her working environment. This was a very nice experience to do but it also shows me that portraiture is something that interests me more and more each day, it is something I really want to do. Also Emily was quite happy with these photographs – even though she doesn’t really like her photos to be taken as she prefers to be behind the camera rather than in front of it. This lets me build up my contact list.

These four photographs are my favourite ones. I really like the composition and the angles they were taken at. The colours are very vibrant which I want to show little bit of her personality. I feel like they work quite well but also show that I have achieved for my project. Looking at them I feel like the second one is little bit dull compare to the other three images but I still wanted to include it as it shows what she does apart from taking images she also does a lot of editing to create her final outcome.
